The project
bikelanebumps.org started as a way to turn the everyday jolts of a bike commute into something useful: a public, live map of the potholes, cracks, and expansion joints that actually make bike lanes bad. Ride data comes from BumpWatch, a standalone Apple Watch app that logs a bump's location and severity automatically, no phone or manual reporting required. It's built and maintained by one rider, with the map open to everyone.
Privacy
The Watch app collects ride and bump data — GPS location, bump severity, and timestamps — without any account, name, or email attached. That data is public by design: every bump anyone submits shows up on this site's heatmap for anyone to see.
